Our organization has been in the city of Albuquerque since 1963. Global Ties ABQ used to be known as The Albuquerque Council for International Visitors (ACIV) and became an official nonprofit in 1984. It is now known as Global Ties ABQ, as part of the Global Ties U.S. national network. We are so glad to announce that since then, we have brought over 6,000 international current and emerging leaders to Albuquerque from over 180 countries of the world. We celebrate today, the accomplishments of this organization and of those who have contributed since the foundation of it!
The five key years, you should know about our organization:
The Albuquerque Council for International Visitors ( ACIV joined the NCIV and ASIA network as “The Albuquerque Committee for Foreign Visitors” under Meridian International Centers program (info from the NCIV archives. This committee at times consisted of only one person who called upon friends in the community to help with visitors sent here by the State Department. Later there were three persons who escorted, entertained in their homes and set up appointments for the visitors.
Global Ties ABQ used to be known as The Albuquerque Council for International Visitors (ACIV) and became an official nonprofit this year.
Global Ties ABQ hosted more than 300 visitors from 78 countries for the first time.
ACIV website activated: abqvisitors.org
We made the decision to go from an” All volunteer Organization “ to paid staff. This decision was made to increase our grant funding from the NCIV.
Now we are 11 people in the team and growing!
