Being an immigrant from Mexico and growing up in a small town I sometimes felt like I wasn’t represented enough. When I got to college I attended a DACA rally and an organization called New Mexico Dream Team was there advocating for thousands of students that were under this policy.
The New Mexico Dream Team made me feel very welcomed. I soon learned that The UNM Dream Team is an immigrant youth led organization that focuses on empowerment, leadership development and fighting for immigrant rights, LGBTQ+, and organizing for equal education opportunities. I have had the privilege of volunteering for many different departments that the New Mexico Dream Team have to help the community making sure everyone’s voice is included in everything and . Some include, Advocacy, Unocuqueer, Education Justice, Undocuhealing, and Field.
I am proud to say that I am the new Leader for the UNM Dream Team. I understand that I have the privilege of using my voice to advocate for others that don’t have the same privilege and are forced to be silenced.
My goal as a leader is to include everyone no matter their background. Making sure UNM includes the true diversity that the institution has to offer.
UNM Dream Team invites any student that would like to join meetings are held every other Tuesday at 3 pm, starting October 19th. Meetings will be held in El Centro’s Conference Room, (Mesa Vista Hall (Bldg. 56) Room 1148.)
